A Little More Dirt

A little dirt (and gravel) can really dress a place up.

That's going to be a well-supported deck!  We're a little attached to it, as is the house.

A New Foundation

Next, the forms for the stemwalls:

...the cement truck rolled up...

...a bit of drying and we had a great new foundation!

Gaining a Foothold

The footers are looking good!

This being Oregon, things got a little damp...

Taking Form

The next thing we knew, they were building the forms for the foundation footers.

Some are really deep...

Painted Dirt

By the next weekend, all that was left was...

dirt.  Well, painted dirt and a couple of stakes.

After the Reclamation

Here's what was left after the Habitat for Humanity folks took everything they could use.  It's amazing how much stuff they can make use of!  They were great.  But even so, this part was really tough.

The front door's not so inviting...

The kitchen - it looked so much smaller with all the stuff gone

Entry and living room - they even took the carpet

Upstairs - used to have wood paneling

Before the Beginning

Here's where we started.   Drafty and kind of moldy as it was, we loved this place.  No one knows what held the beach stairs up, but it was probably mostly just tradition.
